That’s What Christmas is All About, Charlie Brown

Have you ever seen “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” the longest-running cartoon special in TV history? In the story, Charlie Brown is frustrated by his friends’ misinterpretation of the holiday.
During a rehearsal for a school Christmas play, Charlie Brown shouts out of desperation, “ISN’T THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WHO CAN TELL ME WHAT CHRISTMAS IS ALL ABOUT?” His best friend, Linus, says, “Sure, Charlie Brown. I can tell you. Lights, please.” As the spotlight shines on him, Linus tells Charlie exactly what Christmas is all about.
Linus proceeds to recite Luke 2:8-14: And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were so afraid. And the angel said unto them, “Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you: Ye shall find the Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
Linus was right. The wonder of Christmas is that the baby born in a manger grew up into a man who died on a cross for our sins. Three days after His death, Jesus rose from the dead, proving He is God’s Son and forever confirming the truth of the angel’s Christmas proclamation that Christ the Lord is our Savior.
That is the whole story of Christmas that you have the privilege and honor of telling your kids any time of the year – especially as it relates to the gospel.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
